Payne & Son is a traditional jewellersspecialising in 20th century and contemporary silver. It also does a fine line in bespoke commissions. The store was founded in 1790 and after eight generations is still run by members of the same family. John Payne opened a silversmiths and jewellers in Wallingford in 1790, with other shops opening in Abingdon 1825, Banbury 1842 and Tunbridge Wells 1870, all run by various members of the Payne family. George Septimus Payne inherited the Abingdon shop in 1874, but 14 years later decided to move to Oxford. Payne & Son started trading in Oxford 1889 and has been at 131 High Street ever since. The 7th and 8th generations of Paynes now run the family business. Lovely shop, nice jewellery and very friendly staff. My friend was getting married in the town hall around the corner and had a wedding ring emergency and we went to Andrew for help and he went above and beyond to solve our problems so that the wedding could go ahead and he wouldn't even accept any money for what he did. Such kindness. We really appreciated his help and highly recommend anyone to pop in the shop to take a look around!
